Cybersecurity Measures Prevent Full Access to On-Board Electronics
Cybersecurity is playing an increasingly important role in the automotive industry. To ensure the IT security of vehicles and prevent unauthorized external access, more and more models are being equipped with so-called component protection SFD2. This protection is the result of several UN and EU directives on the security of vehicle diagnostics, specifically in the area of cybersecurity and software updates.
It is designed to prevent manipulation attempts and ensure IT data protection. However, this also prevents access to certain settings and functions that are essential for the full integration of accessories such as trailer modules.
Model year 2024 or later (10th digit of the VIN = R or S) PR code: NI1, NI7, NI8, or NI9
Currently, newer vehicles from the Volkswagen Group are experiencing vehicle coding issues when a trailer hitch with a corresponding wiring kit is retrofitted. This affects various Volkswagen Group models with model year code “R” in the 10th digit of the VIN. Also identifiable by the PR equipment codes: NI1, NI7, NI8, NI9
JAEGER automotive offers EasyCode+, a solution that ensures continued full functionality of trailer lighting and indicator signal failure monitoring. Only some comfort functions, such as the automatic deactivation of the rear fog light, parking assist, or cross-traffic alert, are not possible without coding and must then be manually deactivated via a switch.
Without coding:
Basic function – all lighting functions on the trailer are available.
If the vehicle manufacturer allows coding at a later date, the coding process can be carried out with suitable coding tools by simply disconnecting the cable bridge.
With coding:
Basic function & support for driver assistance systems.
